Hola Amigos, Poco Loco Is Here To Taco’ver Your Appetite
In queso you were wondering where to head this weekend, there’s a new Mexican restaurant in town. It’s called Poco Loco and you’re going to get along just well, because it has great chemistry, quite literally.
This is a quirky chemistry-themed Mexican tapas bar. Your main hombre behind the bar counter is all about concocting molecular cocktails that pair perfectly with everything Español.
So, let’s get taco-ing about this place already!
A Peek Inside
Keeping up with the theme, the decor is all about getting your chemistry right. On stepping in, you are greeted by a huge ‘periodic table’ painted on a wall. But it’s no ordinary one, it’s Dr. Loco’s chemistry cocktail table.
BTW, Dr Loco is their inhouse mascot for all the molecular gastronomy being concocted behind the bar, like the ones I tried.
Reaction
First up from their molecular cocktail menu was the cocktail called Reaction and it sure did get my attention. This cocktail is made with cookie-infused whisky and bitters that’s all homemade. What really blew my mind though, was the cinnamon-infused smoke used in this drink. It was a real treat to not just taste it but also watch it being made.
Rollo De Agaucate
Avocado is the national fruit of Mexico, so I had to order it. But this time, instead of going for the usual guacamole or bruschetta, I tried something new and interesting. I ordered the avocado rollos, which was avocados wrapped around some chicken pate to give you a melt-in-the-mouth dish. It was served with a side of some more chicken pate that had me licking the cutlery…mmm.
Gambon Chipotle
Next up, was some chargrilled king prawns marinated in some delicious spicy smoky chipotle sauce. Firm yet soft and full of flavour, these were simply M-excelente!
Bran The Broken
To water down that spice, I tried the Game Of Thrones special cocktail. This cocktail is an icy blue one and will remind you of the Knight King’s eyes. It’s made with the Johnnie Walker White Walker, blue curacao, vanilla and egg white and has a subtle sweet taste.
Harissa Lamb Cigar
The best part about ordering tapas, is that you’ll never be overfull, there’s always space to try out more. So, I tried this stuffed harissa lamb wrapped in phyllo pastry. It was served with some beetroot tzatziki that went very well together.
Churros Con Chocolate
Want an instant churro-up? How about a bowl of freshly made warm churro sticks glazed with cinnamon sugar? All I had to do was dip it into the melted chocolate for an instant sugar rush.
tl;dr? I GOAT You!
Order a tapas or two or eight, because holy guacamole, their menu is a real fiesta! Don’t forget to try their molecular cocktails too, all concocted from Dr Loco’s secret recipes.
