We Indians are blessed, you know why? Because, no matter which part of the country we visit, we legit have so many local delicacies to treat our taste buds. The unique culinary methods adopted in each city have their own charm and remain unparalleled. And when it comes to street foods, the sheer variety we have is overwhelming. We are so obsessed with street food that we even dedicate songs on it, because why not?

Remember ‘main toh raste se jaa raha tha, main toh bhel puri kha raha tha?’ We really need no reason to stop at our favourite street food joint and satiate our cravings. 

From vada pav of Mumbai to crispy dosas of Chennai, here are the popular street food dishes that you must devour while exploring the popular cities of India with your yaars. 

Vada Pav of ‘Aamchi Mumbai’
Forgive me for being biased, but coming from Mumbai, I couldn’t have started off this list with any other city. Vada Pav is India’s answer to the videshi burger! This scrumptious snack is almost a staple here and you can often find hungry commuters making a pit stop especially to hog these spicy treats.

Momos of ‘Dilwalo ki Dilli’
Momos are to Delhi what Vada Pav is to Mumbai. Even though momos are a Tibetan dish, they are the king of street food in Delhi. From steamed and fried to tandoori momos served with mouthwatering chutneys, you just can’t leave the city without pigging out on these flavoursome treats.

Puchkas of Kolkata

Dabeli of Gujarat
I like to think of Dabeli as the Gujarati cousin of Vada Pav. They look quite similar, but Dabeli is comparatively sweeter using ingredients like peanuts, pomegranate seeds, sev, chopped onions and sweet chutneys. Just writing about it is making me drool.

Mirchi Bhajji of Hyderabad
I know the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Hyderabad is Biryani, but Mirchi Bhajji comes very close. The seemingly ordinary street food is served with lemon and spicy chutney. Be ready to cry a little as these teekha fritters are known for inducing tears!

Litti Chokha of Bihar
This traditional Bihari dish is a burst of flavours in your mouth. Made from flour and stuffed with sattu, litti is the bread served with chokha made using potatoes and eggplants. Don’t forget to pour generous amounts of ghee whenever you try this unique cuisine.

‘Lakhanpur de Bhalle’ of Jammu & Kashmir
The entry point to Jammu & Kashmir, Lakhanpur is famous for its bhalle that are sure to leave you salivating. This fried snack is made from pulses and paired with green chutney and shredded radish. You now have more reasons than one to visit J&K.
