5 Female Superhero Movies To Look Forward To After Captain Marvel

Vanessa Luis
There's so much to look forward to!

The superhero universe has long been ruled by male leads, until Wonder Woman came along. That was two years back! It’s been a long wait since, but it’s totally worth it with the latest female superhero release. Marvel’s most powerful character ever is a woman and her movie just hit the big screen. She goes by the name Captain Marvel and she is the first female superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to have her own movie. The film stars Brie Larson as Captain Marvel in the lead with Samuel L. Jackson and Jude Law playing supporting roles. She is supposed to be more powerful than any other character ever introduced in the MCU. How cool is that!

With this release, it seems like its finally time for more female superheroes to have their own screen space. Some projects are in the making, some confirmed and some just rumoured. Either way, it’s worth getting our hopes high for these 5 female superhero movies.

Wonder Woman 1984
DC fans you are in for a real treat. Wonder Woman has been confirmed for a release next year. The plot is still unknown, except for the fact that it will take place in the 1980s and will revolve around the conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. The movie is set for an official release in 2020.

Birds Of Prey
Birds Of Prey is also a film of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which is set after the events of Suicide Squad. The plot begins with Batman disappearing from Gotham City, leaving it unprotected from crime. Meanwhile Harley Quinn has left the Joker and has joined forces with Black Canary, the Huntress, and Renee Montoya to save Cassandra Cain from crime lord Black Mask. That’s all we know for now.

Batgirl
We meant it when we said DC fans have much to look forward to. The Batgirl movie is finally in the talks. There have been plenty of Batman movies and series, where Batgirl features as a side character, but this will be the first of its kind solo Batgirl film. It is said to be based on the Barbara Gordon version of the popular character from the New 52.

Black Widow
Marvel fans have been rooting for a Black Widow standalone movie ever since Scarlett Johansson debuted in Iron Man 2. While most of it seemed like wishful thinking and rumours, the news just got it that the MCU is finally narrowing down on the cast to surround Scarlett Johansson in her first solo spy adventure as former Russian assassin Natasha Romanoff.

Hawkgirl
This is still a much-rumoured project but there is a chance we’ll see Hawkgirl in a feature film. Well, not on her own though. The movie is said to be split between Hawkgirl and Hawkman. Both of them have previously appeared as side characters in a number of movies and shows but looks like they’ll have their own screen space soon.

Are you excited for these movies? Because we sure are! Tell us what other female superheroes you would like to see in their own movies. Who knows, the universe (by that we mean the DC and the Marvel universe) might actually grant your wish.
