6 Times Virat Kohli Made The Country Proud
If Virat isn’t your favourite cricket yet, he should definitely make it to your list. The Indian cricket captain keeps setting the bar so high, that it's become difficult to even write about. Kohli's rise from a stylish, promising young batsman into one of India’s greatest of all time has been an absolute joy to witness.
Right from the time, he captained India to the championship in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2008 in Malaysia to him winning the cricketer of the year in 2017 are just some of his accolades that made the nation proud.
Here are the 6 times Virat wooed us. (We could go on and on…)
1. Kohli’s 3rd double ton against England, December 2016
Hosting a strong England side that had been in a tremendous format with both bat and ball, Indian skipper turned on the heat. In the final test, he went on to smash 235 runs in the first innings to take India’s total over 600. It was his third Test double hundred, and the most ever made by any Indian skipper. He gave India a strong lead of over 200 runs, and with Indian bowlers making a mess of England’s batting line-up, the visitors went on to suffer an innings defeat.
2. 183 vs. Pakistan - 5th ODI, Asia Cup at Dhaka - 2012
India had been defeated by Bangladesh before, and had to win this match to make it to the final. After a 133-run partnership, Sachin got out to a gem of a delivery from Saeed Ajmal. Virat found another stable partner in Rohit Sharma, and stepped up with their game to the Pakistani bowlers. The trademark of his 183-run innings was 22 boundaries and one six.
3. India vs. Pakistan, 2015 (World Cup)
Virat had a lot to prove that day, having lost to the Pakistani squad two years prior to the World Cup. He made sure that the victory against Pakistan was a significant one. As India chose to bat first, Kohli scored a century off 119 balls and held the fort to ensure India’s victory once again!
4. World's fastest batsman to reach 10,000 runs in ODI
On 24th October, 2018, Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman to score 10,000 ODI runs. He took just 205 innings to reach the landmark, bettering Sachin Tendulkar's 259 innings. He is the 13th batsman in the world to make it to this elite club and the fifth Indian to do so.
5. Best International Cricketer, BCCI awards, 2018
Following Virat Kohli’s phenomenal performance in the past two seasons, the Indian captain has been presented with the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award for the best international cricketer (2016-17 and 2017-18) at the BCCI Awards. Virat's prolific career keeps on adding and nothing could make us more proud of him.
6. When Virat defended Anushka
Did you know Anushka was trolled for India’s loss in the World Cup semi-final match? Well, Virat supported her and stood by his lady love, lashing back to the haters with a powerful tweet. Back then, these two love-birds weren’t even a married couple. They were just dating. Much respect!
If he isn't already, then by the end of his career, he will be the undisputed GOAT (Greatest of all time).
