With over two decades of an acting career, Shah Rukh Khan has seen several highs. But converting your #PassionToPaycheck comes with some struggles.
SRK talks about it all, the struggles and successes, at the Signature Startup Masterclass 3.0 on 15th December 2018 in Lucknow. So, don’t miss it! Book your tickets.
For now, here’s a glimpse of his journey to stardom.
His Television Debut
Fresh out of drama school in 1988, this Delhi boy got his first acting break in a television show. Contrary to popular belief, this show was not “Fauji”. It was called “Dil Dariya” and was directed by veteran director Lekh Tandon. However, due to production problems, the launch was delayed and “Fauji” was released before.
In 1989, “Fauji” marked SRK’s debut in the world of television. “Circus” was released in the same year too, where he played an important role. In the next few years, he also appeared in other television series, such as “Umeed” and “Wagle Ki Duniya” and “In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones”.
The Big Break
In 1992, his first film “Deewana” was released, where he starred alongside Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharti, and thus started his Bollywood journey. By the end of the decade, he had already acted in over 20 movies with several super hits. Some of them included “Darr”, “Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman”, “Karan Arjun”, “Baazigar”, “Dil to Pagal Hai” and several more. You can read all about his best 90s films here.
The Path-Breaking Movie
Amidst all the good movies he was already making, the actual turning point of his career happened in 1995 with “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”. It was released under the banner of the famous Yash Raj Films. The movie was a huge hit at the box office and was acclaimed as an ‘all-time blockbuster’. Till date, it is still running in the iconic Maratha Mandir theatre, in Mumbai. It completed 1000 weeks of continuous showing in the year 2014, which is a record in itself.
Dharma Productions’ Golden Boy
In 1998, he starred in Karan Johar’s directorial debut, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, which was a super hit. From there on, he played the lead role in many Dharma Productions’ movies like “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”, “Kal Ho Na Ho”, “Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna”, “My Name Is Khan” etc.
SRK, The Producer
In 1999, he turned producer and established a production house called Dreamz Unlimited along with actress Juhi Chawla and acclaimed director Aziz Mirza. The first film to be produced by the production house was “Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani”.
In 2004, he parted ways with his business partners and went on to launch a new production house — Red Chillies Entertainment, managed by his wife, Gauri. “Main Hoon Na” was its first release.
Beyond Films
SRK made his TV appearance again in 2007, but this time as a TV show host. He presented the famous quiz show “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. He was also the presenter for a few other TV shows like “Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?” and “Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout”.
With a versatile and successful career as this, SRK brings along almost 3 decades worth of stories. He shares these highs, along with some lows about his #PassionToPaycheck journey on the Signature Startupd Masterclass 3.0. Catch him live in Lucknow on 15th December 2018. Get your tickets here.
