Recently my friends have been calling me “the cocktail enthusiast” and I must say it feels good! But it took me a while to earn this title. I took my time and learned the art of pre-batching my cocktails. Yep, that’s how I became an ace at fixing quick cocktails!
Now, I get to have fun at the party too and I won’t be stuck behind the bar slicing limes, pouring and mixing drinks all the time.
Here’s how you go about it:
What to use and what not to use
- When it comes to pre-mixing, you can mix fruit juices with other fruit juices and keep your liquors and liqueurs ready.
- Avoid using eggs or dairy for pre-batching, as you’ll have to keep stirring it at intervals.
- Also, if you’re planning to make bubbly cocktails like Gin-fizz, add fizz to the gin just before the party begins.
How to adjust your recipe
Take the recipe for one cocktail into proportions, e.g. 45ml Smirnoff No.21vodka to 90ml guava juice would be a 1:2 ratio of Smirnoff No.21 vodka to guava juice, which you can use with any kind of measurement.
Ice
Here’s a fun fact:
Did you know? More the ice, chiller the drink, chiller the drink slower the dilution! So, if you want your guests to chill with their drinks for a while, you know what to do.
Depending on how much labor you want to put into serving your guests, you can either stir or shake the pre-mixed drink over ice for each person.
Keeping it fresh!
You can’t really pre-muddle herbs and fruit for a cocktail. Mint bruises and will turn brown.
However, you can pre-slice things like limes and lemons a couple of hours in advance.
So, now that you know how to be a perfect host for your next cocktail party, get mixing already! And if it’s not perfect the first time, it’s okay, you’ll get there. Just keep practicing.
