Evergreen books that you must read ASAP if you haven’t already!

What's it about books really? The more you read, the more you want to read. The list never ends. This is the dilemma most book lovers like me face. Am I right or am I right? While there's no bypassing the reality of 'so many books, such little time' we can definitely prioritise the literary classics that would be a shame to miss out on. 

So, here I am, listing my favourite books that have been life-changing for me, to say the least. You may have read some of these books or heard about them. It’s time to get back to reading these ‘forever books’ if you want to feel inspired and if you’re done working from home.

1. The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald 
This jazz age masterpiece is the story of the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby set among the rich of 1920s New York City. When you read this one, you will be acquainted with the fragility of the American dream and the things people would do to achieve those dreams.

2. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
Take it from a fellow booklover, this would be the most special book you read in your life *EVER*. I won’t be surprised if you end up reading it more than once. The book is a magical chronicle of Mitch and his professor, Morrie who shares his take on life and its experiences even as he is on his deathbed.

3. The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
The Fountainhead is a classic book that must have a place in your bookshelf. The book presents the author’s views against collectivism through the protagonist, Howard Roark. It focuses on his journey against a tradition and system to break free.

4. God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
If there was only one book you could read before you die, this is a strong contender. Arundhati’s debut novel and her first fictional work, God of Small Things won her the Booker Prize. The plot sheds light on caste taboos and what it means when you break them in orthodox societies.

5. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

6. Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
Written in 1948, this book gave a chilling prophecy about the future. And even though 1984 has long gone, this book is still so relevant and holds the imagination of a generation of readers. It is worth reading in a book club or buddy-reading to discuss the profound impact it’ll have on you.

7. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Published in 1960, this book holds a legendary status to this day. It even received a Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1961. This powerful book was based on the racism happening in the southern USA and explored the themes of innocence and justice through the eyes of a small girl named Jean Louise 'Scout' Finch.
