Things We Did In Our Childhood During The Festival Of Colours Skip to main content
From stocking up colours to dancing on Bollywood Songs, we cannot forget the fun we had during this vibrant festival of colours.

As we enter March, I can’t help but jump with glee because my favourite festival is around the corner – the festival of colours. It calls for celebrations and brings with it fond memories of my childhood – covered head to toe in every colour there was. It used to be my favourite festival because I never had to worry about my clothes (or even my face) getting dirty. I was free as a bird, no inhibitions whatsoever. Unlike other festivals, there was no requirement of having a bath and sitting for pooja either. Big Win!
As the season of colours is upon us, I can’t help but reminisce all the crazy things we did in our bachpan. Let’s jog our memory a little and see how many of these make you go “OMG! So Me!”

You hoarded colours and a kickass pichkari days before the watery fest.

You used to wake up early in the morning to colour people using your pichkari from a vantage point of your chhat.

You had the perfect playlist of songs that you knew you would dance to all day even if it meant dancing for the 500th time to the same song.

You wouldn’t leave your house before dipping yourself in oil and moisturisers like you were preparing for a war.

Colours were never enough so you had eggs to throw at your yaars. Extra nourishment, you see?

You knew a colour splash would soon become ordinary so you had a mud pit ready for the ultimate mud bath.

You braced yourself for all the times you got pulled into an impromptu dance duo on Rang Barse!!

You stuffed yourself with mithai of every kind and didn’t think you’d ever touch sweets again (who were you kidding?)

You emptied the water tank trying to get the colours off your body while the rest of the family knocked on your door with ‘Arey bhai hume bhi toh nahana hai. Bahar nikalo.’

You spent the rest of the day in a lazy daze enjoying a good movie with your family scooched together.

You would flaunt your discoloured nails (and sometimes a part of your face) for the next few days because those pakka colours never came off.

We may have grown up now, but let’s vow to celebrate this festival with as much joy and colour with our yaars always by our side.
