These Butter Cocktails Are Proof That Butter Does Make Everything Better
A dollop of butter on a piece of toast or on some piping hot pav bhaji can get anyone drooling. But…the thought of DRINKING that same buttery goodness can make even an ardent butterhead shudder.
We totally get you! It may not sound like the most appetising thing to put in your mouth but trust us, butter does make everything better, including your cocktails. This is done through a process called fat-washing and all the trendiest bars in town are in on it.
Now, fat-washing might sound like a process of removing bacon grease from your clothes but it’s honestly a clever technique of adding more flavour to your spirit by infusing it with fat (which is butter)!
We spoke to Diageo Brand Ambassador, Afzal Kaba about this latest trend and he told us exactly how to make our own fat-washed butter cocktails.
How to do fat-washing:
Ingredients
25gms unsalted butter
200ml Johnnie Walker Black Label
Method
In a pan, melt the unsalted butter on low flame.
Remove it from the flame and pour it to a mason jar with the Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky.
Stir the mix and keep it at room temperature for an hour. Shake occasionally.
Later move it in a deep freezer for 24 hours.
Remove it from deep freezer. (You will notice that the liquid is not frozen as alcohol does not freeze, but the butter will separate from it and float on top.)
Puncture the fat/butter layer and drain out the alcohol into another container.
Use a fine cloth to further strain the alcohol for any particles and keeping straining till it is clear.
You will notice this whisky is super clear but tastes quite buttery, which makes for an excellent cocktail.
You need to try it to believe it. Here are some butter cocktails made with fat(butter)-washed whisky.
