Music To The Ears (And Eyes) - Top Music TV Shows For You To Stream
Come weekend, there is the one question everyone will be asking you, ‘Got any plans?’ And if you’re one who loves staying in, answering this question might be a tad bit difficult.
While being a homebody is the best thing ever, I always run out of things to do while lazing around on a weekend. How many TV shows can one watch? How much music can I listen to? How many hours can I spend in bed? *yawns*
But what if I told you that you could multi-task on a Sunday afternoon and still have fun?
I compiled a list of music TV shows that are fun, flawless, and fantastic – for you to watch!
Like Hannah Montana said, ‘You get the best of both worlds’.
Glee
Who doesn’t remember Glee? With its catchy covers, unforgettable characters, and witty dialogues, Glee became an instant hit back in 2009. The show introduced viewers to a motley bunch of underdogs, who under the guidance of their mentor (and Spanish teacher) Mr Schuester, go on to chase ‘New Directions’ with their talents.
We in turn, got a slew of chart-toppers, covers of songs both old and new, and references we’ll be quoting for years to come. Fondue for two, anyone?
Coke Studio
With its roots In Pakistan, Coke Studio is 11 seasons strong and features live studio-recorded performances by both established and emerging artists. By bringing local folk, Sufi, and western music together on a single stage, the show managed to break barriers and get ‘Afreen Afreen’ stuck in our heads.
The Indian version has been just as popular by churning out hits like Clinton Cerejo and Vishal Dadlani’s powerful ‘Madari’ and Harshdeep Kaur’s dreamy ‘Nirmohiya’. Are you humming it yet?
Empire
This acclaimed prime-time Hip Hop soap opera is loosely based on Shakespeare’s King Lear and has an original soundtrack produced by hit-maker Timbaland. With its fair share of drama, power-hungry characters, and tragedies, the show is super addictive and binge worthy – from start to finish. No wonder this empire ruled both charts and TV screens for five satisfying seasons.
Lip Sync Battle
A complete laughter riot, the show pits two celebrities against each other in each episode where they battle it out by, you guessed it… lip syncing! Every bathroom singer’s daydream, the show is full of hilarious instances courtesy the participants and their crazy antics. Hosted by LL Cool J with colourful commentary by Chrissy Teigen, the show is judged by a live audience which makes it even more entertaining.
Need a personal recommendation? Tom Holland putting his Spidey senses to good use while performing Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’!
No 1 Yaari Jam
A musical chat show like none other, the McDowell’s No 1 Soda Yaari Jam is an ode to friendship and music, all rolled into one! Hosted by the musical pair of Salim Merchant and Anusha Manchanda, the show featured musicians-turned-friends from the industry and entertained us with their candid conversations, backstories, and of course music! A truly melodious binge fest, this one.
So, have I sorted out your weekend plans yet? I hope I have.
